This is kind of cute... (from Peter)

//Two bored casino dealers were waiting at a craps table. A very attractive blonde woman arrived and bet twenty thousand dollars on a single roll of the dice.
She said, "I hope you don't mind, but I feel much luckier when I'm completely nude." With that she stripped from her neck down, rolled the dice and yelled "Mama needs new clothes!"
Then she hollered..."YES! YES! I WON! I WON!" She jumped up and down and hugged each of the dealers. She then picked up all the money and her clothes and quickly departed.

The dealers just stared at each other dumbfounded.
Finally, one of them asked.. "What did she roll?" The other answered, "I don't know, I thought YOU were watching!"

Moral of the story: Not all blondes are dumb, but all men....are men.
//

It's been a good day. Finished my Dystopia chapter and one of the cubs sat down after school and did 2 pages of homework unsupervised. This was also the cub that yesterday offered to carry some of the shopping home for me. : )
And I've discovered one cub will eat plain chicken but not steak, and visa-versa. *rolls eyes*
Got home from picking the cubs up to find our backyard had 3 construction vehicles parked in there. Tch, are we the only house in the street that has clear space?

Right, what can I get on with now? The next Dys chapter? Next AC? Something else? Hmm...

[grumbles about being used as a go between, then smirks at happy memories of Falan...] The ningen's posted the pic here, since it seems to have been taken down from the original site. It won't stay there long, though...

(nicked from Onna's blog:)
//Joules - You have been SO busy doing so much stuff and I feel like a slug...//

You feel like a slug?
The only reason I write as much as I do is in a desperate attempt to keep up with her!
(Mind you if I hadn't been trying to keep up with her I'd still only be writing half-a-dozen fics a year, so it's worked out quite well, I think... *g*)

I bought myself some nice shiny new stainless steel roasting pans yesterday - I'm going to put them away for my next house and the cubs' father can have the old, aluminium pans. But not my other steel ones, or my cast iron cookware. I was going to let him have the saucepans and get myself some new ones but I just couldn't do it. I've had those saucepans since I moved out of my parents' house, 18 years now. We get on well together, I understand them, know their capabilities - they're my friends, I couldn't leave them to his indifferent care.
Anthropomorphising? Me? *g*

Things have settled down here now, and end of next week the Easter school hols start. Good, I need a rest. : )

[*snuggling hybrid* Yes, best to stay out of the way until the site's back and no, I don't mind if Falan 'drops in' occasionally... very occasionally...]

[sits cross-legged in the middle of bower, tail twitching, scowling] Going to lurk here until the ningen's got her site back - she's impossible at the moment...

[harpooned in Talon's Nursery]:

*glowers at the bower* And I'll thank you two and your family to stay out of my dreams!!! [snip].. it WAS specifically Alestrel and Lutra based...

[SMIRK] Heh, wait til you read Celebration...

[lies back exhausted, breathing slowly and deeply, smirking appreciatively at Falan's retreating... figure] That was a lot less traumatic than I expected. Zk'vissin, I want to borrow him next shizun too. You don't expect that much stamina and innovation from a ningen... [grins at tenshi] Admit it. You enjoyed it too, you voyeuse... Do you mind if he... drops in... occasionally...?

*dreamy sigh*
The cubs had a day off school today so we went to the Melbourne Aquarium.
You know how relaxing it is watching a tank of fish, well, multiply that by lots (there are some ginormous tanks here :). True, the effect was diminished a little by being in the company of two full-on, full volume 7 year olds but even so I'm considerably less frazzled after this outing than I usually am.
You know, I had no idea some of those fish I see in the documentaries were so big! I always assumed the leafy sea-dragons where little, but they're twice the length of my palm, and so graceful...
There's a simulated mangrove pond at the aquarium and in it is a selection of small sharks (Port Jacksons, Pygmys amongst others) and some juvenile sting rays. The top of the pond is waist height on me so you could look at the surface as well as seeing the critters through the perspex sides. Seeing the itsy bitsy dorsal fins breaking the water was so cute!
Heh, as well as being soothed by all the fishies swimming around, I was also permanently peckish - all these loverly, juicy meals swimming just inches from my nose... mmmm...
The aquarium has several big sharks as well, in it's main tank. At the question/information session, a little girl asked how they kept the sharks from eating the other fish. The short answer was 'we can't', but the keeper went on to say the sharks are kept well fed so they're not quite so tempted to decimate the fish population.
'Well fed'? I'll say! You think of sharks as being lean and mean, but this lot were more like barrels with teeth! *g*
The souvenir shop deserves a mention because it had snow domes! and loads of other stuff to satisfy my fish fetish. We're going to join the 'friends of the aquarium' asap, not only so we can get in free but get the 20% discount in the shop. heh heh heh.
(I'm reminded at this point of a scene from one of the Simpson's episodes where 2 of the mafia guys are talking about Troy McClure's comeback.
1st guy: I thought you said McClure was dead?
2nd guy: No, what I said was 'he sleeps with the fishes'.
1st guy: I don't want to hear any more!!

Ok, fair enough, I like fish, but not quite that way... Do merpeople count as fish?)

The cubs badgered me into taking them to the cafe and I was glad they did, not only was it reasonably priced (compared to the Museum's cafe) but when someone there suggested we try a new flavoured milk (caramel - yum!) and because of a cash shortage (how unusual) I had to ask the cubs to choose between something to eat or something to drink, we were given the drinks for free! And when I ordered a bowl of chips and a spare plate (so they could share) we got 2 bowls of chips for the price of 1!
Impressed? Hell, yes...

We also had a ride on the free ferry that travels the Yarra river between the Aquarium and Federation Square. The cubs enjoyed that almost as much as I did, I think.
It was good going in to the city on a weekday, the public transport is so much better - this time we only had to wait 5 minutes instead of an hour for a bus home.

Our backyard is currently a wasteland. The council is doing some work on the pipes that run along our (and everyone else in the streets) back fence.
The good thing is that they've basically cleared a path 10' wide, removing all the weeds and old prunings and concrete crap that'd been there since before we moved in, the bad news is we've lost some of our privacy - all of the plants along the back fence screened us from the house over the way - (especially miffed about the orange tree and bamboo) and KittenKong is traumatised cos of all the big machines and strange men tearing up her backyard...

This came from Soulsis.
The Scorpio one had me giggling madly, but I dispute the Pisces entry...

//After Sex Comments by Sun Sign:

Aries: "Okay, let's do it again!"
Taurus: "I'm hungry--pass the pizza."
Gemini: "Have you seen the remote?"
Cancer: "When are we getting married?"
Leo: "Wasn't I fantastic?"
Virgo: "I need to wash the sheets."
Libra: "I liked it if you liked it."
Scorpio: "Perhaps I should untie you."
Sagittarius: "Don't call me--I'll call you."
Capricorn: "Do you have a business card?"
Aquarius: "Now let's try it with our clothes off!"
Pisces: "What did you say your name was again?"
//

This also came from Soulsis...
I can just imagine selling these at the school xmas fete. *g*

//Tampon angel ornaments

Use Playtex because they fan out into a cone shape. Dip into water until tampon expands.

Remove and tie at the top to create the angel's head. Let hang (by handy dandy string) for several days until dry. Paint face with peach or skin tone, and draw small black dots for eyes. Add blush or pink paint to cheeks.

Paint "dress" with glimmer paint. Criss-cross thin gold ribbon across chest (around neck) . Add yellow doll hair to top of head as well as a gold pipe cleaner for a halo. For the grand finale...glue small gold angel wings to back.

Ta da!!! You would never know she belonged anywhere else than your tree!!!! People have to look long and hard to figure out where that little darlin really is from!!!

hmmm...

[packs up picnic basket with a variety of meaty nibbles, strawberries, cream and bubbly drinks, grabs hand and drags tired, frazzled tenshi into air] Right. Beach. Picnic. Swim. Hunt. [smirk] Etc....

We've got a praying mantis in the kitchen - only a little one, couple of inches long. It's kind of creepy really, it watches me intently when I move about.
I keep telling it I'm too big for it, it'd never manage to eat all of me...

Inspection's over. Only took a few minutes and was relatively painless. Everything that was wrong with the place isn't our fault so.. *shrug* I'm ready to move on to the next place now; donations - aus cash or money order - gratefully accepted.

I'm sorry, this is going to be a bit of a rant.. feel free to skip this next part.

When someone says they've 'cleaned the toilet' for you, what do you expect to have been done? A bit more than just the inside of the toilet bowl, yes?
*sigh* I really shouldn't have got my hopes up, should I? Oh well, it's only a small room, didn't take long to wipe down the outside of the bowl, the seat, the cistern, the skirting boards and floor...

(nicked from Joules' blog:)
//....went to Tesco earlier. Was confronted by a stack of ham-hams.... No, not in the meat section, unfortunately - in the toy section (hey, it was a short cut to where I wanted to be....) Bijou. Lots and lots of Bijou. Inedible fuzzy toys... [Exit one lizard, screaming....]//

Oooo! *jealousjealous* I haven't seen any Ham-ham stuff around except on ebay... (for the record, Hamtaro is my favourite.)
Heh, Soulsis got to see the Ham-hams for the first time yesterday. I don't think she was impressed, she kept giving me these incredulous side-long looks... heeheehee...
And she wasn't that impressed with Cowboy BeBop either. Tch, she needs work, obviously.
Forgot to mention that Niki brought round some clothes she'd half-finished for me. : ) One piece was a pair of very comfy pale-blue trousers - pale-blue's really not my colour but once they've been tie-died purple...

Honestly, roses are the most ungrateful things! You do something that's only in their best interest and they rip your arms to shreds.
Right, done as much as I can/am willing to do with the garden this time. If I'm smart I'll stay on top of it all, but I'll probly slip back into the usual apathy and the next time the garden sees any sort of concerted effort will be the clean-up before we move out...

(Hey, Joules, is it OK for me to mention that I've read 'Academy'? Loved it, by the way! I'm all enthused now about my next ACchapter - though I'll get the 'lestrel/Lutra chapter finished first.)

Hee, Onna, that little ceramic fishie bowl is just the right size for a decent serve of yoghurt - or dolly mixture. *g*

[rests chin on shoulder, nuzzling earlobe, cool hands soothing stinging - rump] Sorry, aijin...

I had a lovely dream last night where I was able to run effortlessly...

Um, oops, sorry 'bout that, Joules. I'll check next time before I blab. *g*
[.. and that tail really hurts! *pouts*]

Soulsis and Niki came round for dinner last night, soulsis as always bearing gifts... a very pretty amethyst point, a set of four itsy bitsy terracotta pots (which Niki suggested could hold individual bulbs of Star of Bethlehem or muscari - yeah!) and a cute little fantail goldfish key ring which is now dangling from my phone along with the pink luck cat, the ladybird(bug) charm, a powerpuff girl and a wooden fish that okapi gave me ages ago. The dangly bits on my phone almost weigh as much as my phone now. *g*

The cubs are really getting into the fashion channel. The other night we were watching it and they told me what they thought would look good on me... uhuh... right - essentially a short black, swirly skirt with 'braces' of sorts made from a black feather boa over a bare chest.
Sorry, chibis, not even under the influence of Hell's Surrender at a Fabian party...

Heh, the cubs' father cleaned the stove top yesterday, and did some weeding outside his room. And he thanked me for my 'gargantuan effort' cleaning up. Nice to be appreciated but I still want my own place.

[thwaps Lutra with tail] You weren't supposed to tell them, baka! [growls and bows apologetically to assorted readers on behalf of mortified ningen] It's because the ningen needed to know if Zaabon was OOC in this particular chapter and for this particular continuum - and tenshi was on ICQ at the time...

Bwahahahahahahah! I've read Transpositions 8! *evil smirk* Is verra, verra good...
Goodness, how long 'til the new site goes up, Joules?

OK, I'm bored titless with cleaning now.
The front garden's more or less finished, except for a very stubborn section near the letter box – but that's full of well-established cooch grass (the Devil's own weed) and I might have to resort to weed killer for that. : ( Don't want to but the stuff is like wire to pull up and my poor little fingies are all sore...
Tomorrow, Sunday, I'll concentrate on the back garden. Not a lot to do there, just some pruning and a little bit of weeding.. I'm ignoring the lawn that really should be mown – if asked, I'm going to say that since it's been such a hard summer and the grass has only just come back I want to give it a little time to recover before I cut it. That'll do.
The cubs' room is sort of finished; bathroom and shower are done, so's the kitchen. Laundry isn't finished but that's a matter of 15 mins work. Loungeroom's finished, that only leaves my room which I'll do this afternoon. I'll do a general clean-up on Monday before the inspection and she'll be apples. Or something. Then can I stop?
Aargh.
Wonder if I can squeeze enough money out of the budget this week to get some brachiosomes to put in the front garden, or some other nice aussie ground-cover plants to fill up the temptingly open space. And it's almost bulb season too! Hopefully the school will have a bulb-drive for one of their fund raisers this year.
Heh, one good thing about the beds being so completely overgrown – the echevaria, the succulents growing there, managed to survive a hard summer and my neglect...

I'm reading a Bryce Courtney novel'Four Fires'. I have mixed feelings about this author. Yes, he's a fantastic story teller, his plots are compelling and emotive and entertaining and occasionally powerful (I still find myself thinking about 'Power of One' and /Tandia') but there's also an element of triteness to his work as well. He's one of those authours whose work is universally described in bookshop catalogues as 'another masterpiece from a master story-teller, full of wit and humour and loveable/colourful/memorable characters...' The book I'm reading at the moment is about a working-class family in a small aus country town in the 50's and 60's. It's interesting, but I'm waiting to see where it's sposed to be going, the narrative doesn't seem to be leading up to anything in particular and I'm 2/3rd's through already. But, BC does do a lot of research for his novels and he has the ability to put you directly into a time and place which I envy.
Anyway, I'm enjoying reading Four Fires even if it's not completely satisfying. I'll let you know if there was a point to it all when I've finished. : )

What's Your Comfort Cocktail?

Lutra, you're a Comfort Colada

Being with you is like taking a vacation. When it comes right down to it, you're good-hearted, smooth, and just the right amount of sweet. Chances are you're the first call people make when they need someone to cheer them up or when they want someone to celebrate with. You're supportive, encouraging, and know how to have a good time.
Since you're a laid-back and sensitive person, you really take the time to fully enjoy all of life's little gifts. You probably thrive when you're surrounded by the things you love most — whether it's friends and family or a cause you are passionate about. There's a richness about you that people just can't ignore. And what better way to complement your compassionate, relaxed spirit than with a cocktail that has the same deep and smooth take on life?
.. and here's the cocktail...
Grab a glass, and one for your friends. Add 2 ice cubes, 1 1/2 oz of Southern Comfort, 1 oz of cream of coconut, 2 oz of pineapple juice, and mix them up in a blender to make a festive cocktail that's just as chill as you are!

Heh, Joules is doing a sequel to her Heroic Legend of Arislan fic, Lustre. (Mind you, Lustre was what she wrote in response to my challenge to write a single story with no follow ups or expansions into epics *g*)
She says she won't be posting it until the new site is up and running... *smirk*

Almost got the cubs' room finished today - took too effing long though. Ah well, that's the two worst rooms dealt with, it should all be downhill from here on in... *high-pitched, manic laugh*

The cubs and I went to a new little asian grocery that's opened up near our old house (why it couldn't have opened while we were living there, I don't know, would've made that little shopping centre near perfect, oh well). The boys were very happy to have a packet of Scooby Snacks, each (oh look, another brand of flavoured potato chips) while I munched on some gorgeous sticky sweet beef jerky and a packet of mixed vanilla and melon dai-fuku (soft rice cake things, very num : ). This is on top of the Basset's Licorice Allsorts I had earlier... Stressed? Moi?
Dinner was nice, though - jacket potatoes with butter, salt and fresh sage... (no, don't, Talon, you know what I mean : )

Wednesday, March 19, 2003

Right, that's the garden beds by the front door, weeded, the paved path weeded and several kilos of sand swept up (the ants have made nests underneath the bricks and turfed out the underlying sand), plus the porch cleared off and all the cobwebs swept away. None of this is looking very pretty, mind, but it is neat at least.
(That was yesterday - today I cleaned the lounge-room, and that was all. Gods this is taking so long! I have very little energy at the moment which isn't helping. I'm tackling the cubs' room tomorrow, that's another day-long job but the rest of the house shouldn't take as long.
If everythings finished by sunday night (the inspection's slated for monday afternoon) I'm going to take myself to the movies as a treat. :)

I had the Fashion Channel on in the background yesterday evening and the cubs spent some time watching it:
'Cool! Stylish! Sassy! Pretty! Amazing!' These were some of the words the cubs came up with while watching; and then we three grooved together for a while to the T-Rex soundtrack used during one of the shows...

I treated myself to a journal today - a paper one, not electronic : ) - it's very pretty. It's pages are in blocks of rainbow colours. I'm going to keep lists of things in it. *g*

Onna, your blog's gone funny again, today and yesterday...
